Scorpio Satcom Base Station utilises the Iridium satellite communications system in conjunction with aircraft equipped with the airborne Scorpio Satcom Control & Transceiver Units. The system provides voice & data communications between the airborne platforms & the base station, both interoperating with the Iridium global satellite communications system satellites & gateway. The airborne system derives navigational data from aircraft systems including the GPS/ FMS/ Compass to enable aircraft position reporting to the base station as well as audio communications to Satcom & other telephones. The system also supports the transmission of Radar Track While Scan (TWS) & maritime surface targets Automatic Identification System (AIS) data from the Scorpio Mission Equipment on the Host aircraft.
